In this special video, the talented guitarist Christian Saggese performs Mauro Giuliani’s Studio nº11, a piece that highlights the beauty and complexity of the classical guitar. Saggese uses the Segovia Model, a faithful replica of the first guitar that José Ramírez III built in 1963 with red cedar. This guitar is a jewel in our collection, outstanding not only for its quality, but also for its historical value, as it was used by the famous guitarist Andrés Segovia.
The history of the Segovia Model
The Segovia Model has a unique history. It was the first guitar built with red cedar in the history of the guitar, because this wood was discovered by José Ramírez III, who revolutionised the world of luthery by opting for this material instead of the traditional spruce. This decision marked a before and after in the construction of classical, flamenco and acoustic guitars, providing a warmer and deeper sound that characterised the interpretations of great guitarists, such as maestro Segovia.
The guitar belonged to Andrés Segovia, one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Segovia took this instrument to the great auditoriums, concert halls and conservatories. Ramírez’s guitar was his companion in many of his performances, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of music.
