For more than a century, the Ramírez family has played a decisive role in the development of the classical and flamenco guitar. From their historic workshop in Madrid to international concert stages, each generation has perfected the balance between tradition and innovation, always guided by one principle: a unique sound.

The story began in Madrid in 1870, when a young apprentice named José Ramírez I joined the workshop of the respected luthier Francisco González. At just twelve years old, he began learning the craft that would shape one of the most influential dynasties of guitar makers in history. By 1882, José Ramírez had opened his own workshop in Madrid. What began as a small artisan workshop soon became a central part of the Madrid School of Guitar Makers, helping to define the modern Spanish guitar through innovation, craftsmanship, and the training of future master builders.
Over the decades, Ramírez’s workshop became more than just a place of production: it evolved into a place of learning. Today, Ramírez is considered one of the world’s leading Spanish guitar makers and one of the oldest family-owned guitar companies still in continuous operation, having been recognized by the Madrid City Council with the “Comercios Centenarios” plaque.
