A tireless concert performer, composer, and pedagogue, he completely transformed the perception of the six strings<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"5,4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-path-to-node=\"6,0\">However, <b data-path-to-node=\"6,0\" data-index-in-node=\"9\">Andr\u00e9s Segovia&#8217;s greatest legacy<\/b> was the monumental repertoire he forged throughout his life<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,2\">. A heritage that encompasses the works created under his direct influence, the scores from other instruments that he masterfully transcribed, and the pieces he immortalized in his recitals and records, granting them almost a new life<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,4\">. To provide physical and acoustic support for this musical journey, the maestro needed the best instruments in the world. He himself stated that his three main guitar makers were <b data-path-to-node=\"6,4\" data-index-in-node=\"180\">Ram\u00edrez, Hauser, and Fleta<\/b>, with the Ram\u00edrez house accompanying him for most of his career.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"7\">The \u00abSegoviana\u00bb Cycle at the Fundaci\u00f3n Juan March<\/h2>\n<p id=\"p-rc_05cfae3e20bc721a-144\" data-path-to-node=\"8\"><span data-path-to-node=\"8,0\">To showcase the breadth, depth, and significance of this guitar legacy, the Fundaci\u00f3n Juan March in Madrid organized the Wednesday cycle titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.march.es\/es\/madrid\/segoviana-legado-andres-segovia\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8,0\" data-index-in-node=\"144\">\u00abSegoviana: el legado de Andr\u00e9s Segovia\u00bb<\/b><\/a>, curated by musicologist Javier Su\u00e1rez-Pajares and in collaboration with the Fundaci\u00f3n Casa Museo \u00abAndr\u00e9s Segovia\u00bb of Linares<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\"><span data-path-to-node=\"9,0\">The cycle, which took place between January 21 and February 4, 2026, systematically articulated the different fronts of the maestro&#8217;s repertoire through three exceptional concerts<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"9,2\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p id=\"p-rc_05cfae3e20bc721a-146\" data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0\"><span data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Baroque and Neo-Baroque (January 21):<\/b> Guitarist Pablo M\u00e1rquez explored the maestro&#8217;s famous transcriptions<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0,2\">. He performed Bach&#8217;s <i data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0,2\" data-index-in-node=\"22\">Chaconne<\/i> and Frescobaldi&#8217;s <i data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0,2\" data-index-in-node=\"49\">La Frescobalda<\/i>, as well as the monumental work Ponce wrote at Segovia&#8217;s request: the <i data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0,2\" data-index-in-node=\"134\">Variations on Folia de Espa\u00f1a and Fugue<\/i> (1929)<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0,4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"p-rc_05cfae3e20bc721a-147\" data-path-to-node=\"10,1,0\"><span data-path-to-node=\"10,1,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10,1,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Aces of the Segovian Repertoire (January 28):<\/b> Marko Topchii tackled the great international pillars of the guitar renovation promoted by the maestro in the 1920s<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,1,0,2\">. The program included pieces by Roussel, Villa-Lobos, Castelnuovo-Tedesco (<i data-path-to-node=\"10,1,0,2\" data-index-in-node=\"76\">Capriccio Diabolico<\/i>), and Tansman, even rescuing complex works that Segovia discarded and which had remained safeguarded in the Linares Foundation<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,1,0,4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"p-rc_05cfae3e20bc721a-148\" data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0\"><span data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Segovia and the Spanish Composers (February 4):<\/b> Ricardo Gall\u00e9n offered a unique perspective by performing Turina&#8217;s <i data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"115\">Sonata<\/i>, Torroba&#8217;s <i data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"133\">Sonatina<\/i>, Asencio&#8217;s <i data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"153\">Suite m\u00edstica<\/i>, and Mompou&#8217;s <i data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"181\">Suite Compostelana<\/i> directly from the authors&#8217; original manuscripts, stripping them of the filter and fingerings with which Segovia edited them in publishing houses like Schott<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0,2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"11\">Andr\u00e9s Segovia&#8217;s Guitars: The Connection with Ram\u00edrez<\/h2>\n<p id=\"p-rc_05cfae3e20bc721a-149\" data-path-to-node=\"12\"><span data-path-to-node=\"12,0\">The renewal of the repertoire analyzed at the Fundaci\u00f3n Juan March required a parallel evolution in the construction of the instrument<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"12,2\">. To fill the great international auditoriums with the complex harmonies of non-guitarist composers, Segovia needed guitars with a projection, stability, and fullness of sound unknown up to that time<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"12,4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_05cfae3e20bc721a-150\" data-path-to-node=\"13\"><span data-path-to-node=\"13,0\">It is at this point where the relationship with our workshop becomes fundamental. Although throughout his career he used iconic instruments such as his famous 1958 Hermann Hauser II<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"13,2\">, <b data-path-to-node=\"13,2\" data-index-in-node=\"2\">Andr\u00e9s Segovia played with Guitarras Ram\u00edrez for most of his life<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_05cfae3e20bc721a-151\" data-path-to-node=\"14\"><span data-path-to-node=\"14,0\">The close collaboration between the maestro and Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez III marked a milestone in world lutherie. The constant experimentation in our Madrid workshop\u2014which led to breakthroughs such as the use of red cedar for soundboards\u2014provided Segovia with the power, the tonal richness, and the deep, romantic voice he needed for his world tours.
