Today, we travel back to December 22, 1898.<\/p>\n<h2>A Treasure from the Archives: Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez in the 19th Century Press<\/h2>\n<p>Thanks to the kindness of <strong>Juan del Pino<\/strong>, who provided us with this fantastic find from the <em>National Library of Spain&#8217;s Digital Newspaper Archive<\/em>, we have recovered an advertisement published over 125 years ago in the weekly magazine <em>Bellas Artes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In this historical clipping, our founder, <strong>Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez I<\/strong>, promotes his workshop at the legendary location of <strong>Calle Concepci\u00f3n Jer\u00f3nima 2<\/strong> in Madrid.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/guitarrasramirez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Diseno-sin-titulo36.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27988 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/guitarrasramirez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Diseno-sin-titulo36.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center; margin: 20px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 5px;\" title=\"Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez Press Clipping 1898\" src=\"[INSERT_IMAGE_URL_HERE]\" alt=\"Old advertisement for Ram\u00edrez Guitars year 1898 Bellas Artes magazine\" \/><figcaption style=\"font-size: 0.9em; color: #666;\">Source: Digital Newspaper Archive. Here are three details that made us smile:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Sevillana&#8221; Guitars?<\/strong> The ad highlights a specialty in &#8220;Concert and Sevillana Guitars.&#8221; It is very likely that this term referred to what is universally known today as <strong>Flamenco guitars<\/strong>. A fascinating terminological distinction from the late 19th century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The 1897 Gold Medal:<\/strong> The ad proudly displays the medal won just a year prior, cementing the brand&#8217;s prestige from its very beginnings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prices from Another Era:<\/strong> Reading that <em>&#8220;mechanical tuning pegs for guitars&#8221;<\/em> were sold <em>&#8220;starting at 5 pesetas&#8221;<\/em> gives us a dizzying perspective on how the economy (and the value of craftsmanship!) has changed in 128 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Repairs are made on violins, cellos, and double basses.&#8221; \u2014 Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez I (1898)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This detail reminds us that the original workshop was a comprehensive hub for string instruments, where mastery wasn&#8217;t limited solely to the guitar.<\/p>\n<h2>A Special Thank You<\/h2>\n<p>We want to publicly thank <strong>Juan del Pino<\/strong> for sharing this piece of history with us.
